What we collect when you message a business on Hei, why we keep it, and who else sees it.

Who we are

Hei is operated by Chosen IT Business Solutions Ltd in Accra, Ghana. Businesses use Hei to sell over WhatsApp and USSD. When you message a business, that business is responsible for what it does with your order; we are responsible for the system that carries it.

What we collect

  • Your phone number and WhatsApp name. WhatsApp gives these to a business when you message it, the way any WhatsApp conversation does.
  • What you send. Messages, photos and voice notes are stored so the business can read them and reply, including when they are asleep and the reply is automatic.
  • Orders and deliveries. What you ordered, what it cost, and the address or area you gave for delivery.
  • Where you are, only if you send it. You can share a location to find businesses near you. We use it to search and we do not track you between conversations.
  • Payment records. We keep the amount, the reference and whether it succeeded. We never see or store your card number, your PIN, or your mobile money credentials.

Who else sees it

  • The business you messaged. They see your conversation and your orders. They do not see anyone else's.
  • Meta, because WhatsApp carries the message. Their terms apply to that leg of it.
  • Paystack, when you pay. They take the payment details directly; we receive only the result.
  • Amazon Web Services, which hosts the system and stores photos, in their Ireland region.

We do not sell your data, and we do not hand your number to other businesses for marketing.

Automatic replies

Some replies are written by the business in advance and sent automatically when your question matches one. Where a business has switched it on, a language model may help sort your message or suggest wording to staff. Nothing invents a price or a promise: answers about what a business sells, charges or stocks come from what that business entered.

How long we keep it

Conversations and orders are kept while the business is on Hei, because both of you may need to refer back to what was agreed. Records of messages we could not understand are kept for 90 days so the business can teach the system, then deleted. Ask us and we will delete your conversation sooner.

Stopping messages

Reply STOP to a business to stop hearing from it, or STOP ALL to stop hearing from every business on Hei. It takes effect immediately, and START brings it back.

Your rights

Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@sayhei.chat and we will answer within a reasonable time. There are step-by-step instructions on deleting your data. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
